Heba Helmi

A visual artist, graphic designer, and writer, she graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University in 1994 with a degree in oil painting. In 2001, she obtained her Master’s degree in Art History and went on to work as an assistant lecturer in the Art History Department at the same faculty from 2002 to 2006.

Her professional journey in graphic design began in 1992 at the renowned Studio of Nagi Shaker, where she worked until 2000. Over the years, she became a prominent figure in the world of book design, creating covers for a number of influential independent publishing houses in Egypt. She worked with Sharqiyat Publishing from 2001 to 2007, and later with Al Ain Publishing from 2016 to 2018. Her design and production work extended to many other notable publishers including Al-Ahram, Merit Publishing, Al-Miraya, Safsafa, and Ibn Rushd.

In addition to her work in design and publishing, she is also an accomplished ceramicist. She divides her time between the village of Tunis in Fayoum and the historic district of Fustat in Cairo, where her workshop and gallery are located near the Darb 1718 contemporary art space in Old Cairo.

Her multidisciplinary career reflects a deep engagement with both contemporary and traditional artistic practices, rooted in a profound appreciation for visual storytelling across media.
